시드니한인회 오혜영 회장에게 요구합니다!!!
-한인회장 임기 중의 지방의회 선거 후보 등록과 관련하여
2024 NSW 지방선거 (9월 14일 예정)에서 현 시드니한인회 오혜영 회장이 스트라스필드 지방의회 카운슬러 후보(자유당)로 등록했습니다.
현 한인회장 임기 중, 특정 정당 후보로 등록했다는 사실은, 시드니 한인 커뮤니티에 상당한 충격과 논란을 불러일으키고 있습니다. 그것은, 다문화 국가에서 한인 커뮤니티를 대표하는 시드니한인회 본연의 기능과 역할에 막대한 영향을 미칠 수 있기 때문입니다.
호주와 같은 이민 국가에서 특정 소수민족 이민자 사회의 대표 단체는 전체 커뮤니티를 위한 여러 가지 역할이 있습니다. 새로 도착하는 이민자의 성공적 정착을 위한 도움 제공(갖가지 법률 상담, 언어교육 지원, 직업 알선 등), 전통문화의 보존 및 2세대 대상의 정체성 확립을 위한 지원(여러 한국 문화 이벤트, 한국식 전통과 예절, 한국어 교육을 위한 행사 등), 한인 커뮤니티 내 유대감 강화를 위한 여러 이벤트(스포츠 대회, 취미 활동 지원, 문화 경연 등)가 한인회가 수행해야 할 활동이라 할 수 있습니다.
또한 한인사회를 대표하는 단체로서의 중요한 기능이 있습니다. 다문화 사회와의 교류, 한인 동포 권익 보호 및 신장, 한인사회를 대변하는 것이 대표 단체로서의 중요한 업무입니다.
특히 기능 측면에서의 한인회 업무는 매우 중요합니다. 한인 커뮤니티 전체의 이익을 도모하기 위한 정부, 정치권 대상의 로비, 다른 이민자 그룹과의 긴밀한 교류와 연대를 통해 한인사회 전체를 위한 이익을 도모해야 합니다. 이를 위해 가장 중요한 것 중 하나가 특정 정당에 치우치지 않는 정치적 중립입니다.
한인 커뮤니티를 대표하는 인사가 특정 정치 성향을 노출하고 정당 당원임을 드러내는 것은 다른 소수민족 그룹과의 협력에 있어 결코 바람직하지 않습니다. 또한 한인사회 내 여러 의견을 공정하게 받아들여야 하는 측면에서 영향을 줄 수 있고, 이는 공정성 논란으로 이어져 커뮤니티 내부의 결집을 깨뜨릴 위험이 큽니다. 대정부, 대정치권 로비에서도 마찬가지입니다. 자기네 정치 노선과 맥을 달리한다는 것을 공개적으로 노출시킨 특정 커뮤니티 대표와 진심을 갖고 가깝게 교류할 정치인은 없을 것입니다.
한인 커뮤니티가 정치적 역량을 키워나가야 한다는 것은 오래전부터 제시되어 온 일입니다. 정치권 인사를 많이 배출하는 것이 그 방법임에는 분명합니다. 하지만 현재 커뮤니티를 대표하는 인사가 특정 정당에 가입하고, 또 정치권 진입을 위해 선거에 출마한다는 것은, 한인회의 기능 중 하나인 한인사회 로비단체로서의 역할을 포기하는 것에 다름 아닙니다.
게다가 한인사회를 대표한다면, 윤리적 책임감을 가져야 합니다. 대표자의 언행 모두가 커뮤니티 전체를 위한 것이야 한다는 것이며, 나아가 한인회장이라는 직책을 이용해 개인적인 것을 추구해서는 안 된다는 의미입니다.
이런 점에서 일단의 시드니한인회 회원들은 오혜영 한인회장에게 두 가지 중 하나, 한인회장으로서 직책에 충실한 것인지, 아니면 정당에 소속되어 지방의회 진출을 시도할 것인지 즉시 선택해 줄 것, 아울러 이에 대한 답변을 공개적으로 밝힐 것을 요구합니다.

한인회장의 정치 중립을 촉구하는 한인동포 긴급 모임

I demand from Chairman Oh Hye-young of the Korean Association of Sydney!!!
-Regarding the registration of candidates for local council elections during the term of the Korean president
In the 2024 NSW local elections (scheduled for September 14), the current chairman of the Sydney Korean People’s Association Oh Hye-young has registered as a candidate for the Strathfield District Council Counsellor (Liberal Party).
During the current term of the Korean president, the fact that he registered as a candidate for a specific political party has caused considerable shock and controversy in the Korean community in Sydney. This is because it can have a huge impact on the intrinsic function and role of the Korean Association in Sydney, which represents the Korean community in a multicultural country.
In immigration countries such as Australia, representative organizations of certain minority immigrant communities have several roles for the entire community. Providing assistance for the successful settlement of new arrivals (various legal counseling, language education support, job placement, etc.), preserving traditional culture and supporting the establishment of an identity for the second generation (various Korean cultural events, Korean traditions and etiquette, events for Korean language education, etc.), and various events (sports competitions, support for hobbies, cultural contests, etc.) to strengthen the bond within the Korean community are activities that the Korean association should be conducting.
It also has an important function as an organization representing the Korean community. Interactions with multicultural societies, protection and promotion of the rights and interests of Korean compatriots, and representing the Korean community are important tasks as representative organizations.
In particular, the Korean Association’s work in terms of function is very important. The government, political lobbying, and close exchanges and solidarity with other immigrant groups should promote the interests of the Korean community as a whole. Political neutrality, which is not biased toward a specific political party, is one of the most important things for this.
When it comes to collaborating with other ethnic minority groups, it is absolutely undesirable for a person representing the Korean community to expose a particular political orientation and appear to be a member of a political party. In addition, it can have an impact on the fairness of various opinions in the Korean community, which is at high risk of leading to controversy over fairness and destroying the unity within the community. The same is true of lobbying for large governments and large political circles. No politician will interact with a particular community representative who has publicly revealed that they are different from their own political lines.
It has long been suggested that the Korean community should develop its political capacity. It is clear that the right way is to produce more political figures. However, when a person representing the current community joins a specific political party and runs for election to enter the political sphere, it is nothing more than giving up his role as a lobby for the Korean community, which is one of the functions of the Korean Association.
In addition, if you represent the Korean community, you should have an ethical responsibility. It means that the representative’s words and actions are for the entire community, and that you should not pursue personal things by using the position of the Korean president.
In this regard, a group of members of the Korean Association in Sydney calls on President Oh Hye-young to immediately choose between two things: whether he is faithful to his position as the president of the Korean Association or whether he will try to enter the local council by belonging to a political party, and to publicly express his answer.
